Alstom Group apparently wants to sell the Görlitz wagon construction plant

There have been rumblings inside and outside the plant for weeks. Even before the summer, it was clear that the orders in Görlitz would only last until mid-2026 and a sale is now being discussed.

Görlitz. The plant of the French rail vehicle manufacturer Alstom with a good 700 employees is apparently about to be sold. The site is likely to be sold to a mechanical engineering company, the Mayor of Görlitz, Octavian Ursu (CDU), announced early on Friday evening. There had already been a staff meeting on the subject, also on Friday.

"Ultimately, it is important for us here in Görlitz that the eternal hangover for our location is ended and a new, reliable future is created," said Ursu according to the press release. "For us as a city and for the employees and their families, securing industrial jobs is a top priority."

According to information from Sächsische.de, a final decision will be made at the beginning of August. Before that the MDR had already reported on the possible sale with reference to IG Metall. A spokesperson for the company did not want to take part in the speculation in an interview with the radio station

Alstom had committed itself in a future collective agreement to remain at the Görlitz site until 2026.

Most recently, the employee side had informed that Alstom would continue to operate beyond mid-2026. will not acquire any orders for the Görlitz plant. The site is currently preparing the construction of car bodies for the streetcars in Leipzig and Görlitz, and 96 double-decker carriages are also being built for Israel. The Görlitz plant has been in existence for 175 years.

It only became known yesterday, Thursday, that the Alstom plant in Bautzen from a four billion euro order for the construction of 90 local trains for the Rhine-Ruhr transport association. (with SZ/uwo)
