Radebeul. A special award for the winegrowers of Schloss Wackerbarth in Radebeul: In the latest edition of the "Gault & Millau Weinguide", the winery is awarded four grapes for the first time, comparable to stars for chefs. This makes it one of the first and only two wineries in eastern Germany to be awarded this top rating, along with the Martin Schwarz winery in Meissen.

"The conversion to near-natural and sustainable viticulture is complete," is the reason given. Today, fungus-resistant grape varieties are already growing on around ten percent of the vineyard area. Previously, 14 independent top sommeliers had tasted, discussed and evaluated the submitted wines and sparkling wines "blind" - i.e. poured from covered bottles.

"We are on the right track with near-natural management"

With four grapes and more than 92 points each in the Falstaff Wine Guide, the "Bussard Royal Réserve brut" and the "2018 Blanc de Noir brut" from Radebeul are among the top wines internationally.

"The feedback from the independent gourmet experts confirms that we are on the right track with the natural and sustainable cultivation of our vineyards as well as the continuous quality development in the cellar," Managing Director Andreas Stuhl is quoted as saying in a press release from Schloss Wackerbarth.
