This Tuesday, wagon builders in Niesky are once again marching to the picket in front of the factory gate. It is already the 18th one. The photo was taken at the 12th vigil.

This Tuesday they will again march in front of the factory gate - Niesky wagon builders who are in great concern about the future of their jobs, about the future of the Niesky plant, which belongs to the Bohemian wagon building producer Tatravagonka belongs. One letter will play a special role in this. Last Friday, the Waggonbau Future Team sent a fire letter to the Federal Ministry of Economics and the Federal Ministry of Transport sent. In it, they - a group consisting of employees and the works council of Waggonbau Niesky as well as trade unionists from the IG Metall East Saxony - has taken up two central points. Firstly, the employees are using the letter to call on those with political responsibility in Berlin to actively support them in finding a solution for maintaining the site in Niesky. And it is also a question of whether the governing parties are committed to the production of freight cars in Germany. Eileen Müller from IG Metall says: "We hope for the support of federal politics. Anyone who wants a turnaround in transportation cannot do without the last freight car manufacturer in Germany."

Since 2022, the employees have been calling on the owner of Waggonbau Niesky, Alexei Belyayev, to hold talks. Several letters from the state government have also not yet been followed up with a concrete date for talks. A future team of experts from the site had already been formed in September 2022. Together, they developed a program of immediate measures, which was sent to the owner and the Saxon state government.

The future of Niesky's wagon construction is also a matter of concern to the Saxon left. In recent years, he said, workers in various countries had occupied factories and fought to keep them in self-management. Would this also be a perspective for Niesky? And under what conditions could such a transformation succeed? This is the question asked by the Görlitz left-wing deputy Mirko Schultze. Together with his colleague in the state parliament, Antonia Mertsching, and the sociologist and political scientist Dario Azzellini, who holds a doctorate, these questions are to be discussed, the left-wing politician announces. In addition there is in the coming week an meeting in Niesky. On March 22 at 17 starts the discussion round in the youth center wood at the Nieskyer garden road 16. Dario Azzellini is switched live from the USA. (SZ)
