Coswig. It's like a second coat that the tailors from Tapferen Schneiderlein Coswig offer. Whether it's a warm dog coat or windproof and waterproof outdoor clothing - Carmen and Jörg Düring can help with pretty much anything.
As a tailor for almost 30 years, the production of dog clothing is no longer a major challenge for tailor Carmen Düring and her colleagues. Nevertheless, it can take up to three weeks for an item of clothing for four-legged friends to be ready. This is because the dog clothing under the "RR Dog's Ware" brand from Coswig is in demand throughout Europe.
Orders mainly come from the Internet
"People mainly order online," says Jörg Düring. "However, interested parties from the region are also welcome to come to our Coswig store with their dog. As a customer, you don't have to take measurements, you can view fabric samples and select suitable colors directly on site - just like a tailor for people."
And as with men's or women's tailors, the price range is wide. The final price depends on the size of the dog and the type of coat. A sweater for small dogs is available in Coswig from 55 euros, while a high-quality coat made of wool with ceramic thermal lining for large dogs starts at 300 euros.
Free rectification - just like with humans
This price is justified by the quality. "We only use high-quality materials from German suppliers. Almost all of our materials are certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. This means that they are free from any harmful substances," explain the operators.
"Wilma was the measure of all things." - Jörg Dürin, tailor
These include water-repellent fleece, waterproof three-layer softshell, highly abrasion-resistant Cordura, waterproof rain fabric and terry cloth, which are suitable for dogs on duty, hiking in difficult terrain, extreme sports and light hunting. All of this is not only important for people who do sport, but also for dogs, who are developing more and more allergies.
In addition to the materials used in Coswig, Carmen and Jörg Düring also offer their customers a promise of satisfaction after the garment has been delivered.
"Within 20 days, the customer can test the product on the dog and if something doesn't fit exactly, the garment can be reworked once free of charge. Just like you do yourself at the tailor's during the final fitting. If it pinches on the arm, it will be reworked free of charge," they say.
Facebook makes dog clothing known worldwide
When asked how the brand name "RR Dog's Ware" came about, Jörg Düring answers: "RR stands for the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog breed." Dogs also comes from English and stands for "dogs", Ware is clear.
"We are owners of this breed ourselves and that's how we came up with the idea in the first place." The origin of the dog clothing was the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog Wilma. As coats were not suitable in terms of fit or quality, the two owners started tailoring them themselves in 2012.
Jörg Düring then shared photos of this coat on the social network Facebook. As a result, the demand for dog clothing increased bit by bit. It has also been available online since 2014. "Wilma was the measure of all things, so to speak," smiles Jörg Düring, who regularly travels to trade fairs throughout Germany with his wife to present "RR Dog's Ware".
Customers from the very beginning remain loyal to him. Just last week, a woman bought her third dog coat in Coswig. A new coat for every new dog, so to speak. Carmen and Jörg Düring are delighted: "It shows that even small craft businesses still have a good position and a right to exist compared to large industrial manufacturers. We can work in a more specialized, high-quality and customer-oriented way than any ready-to-wear company. That makes us very happy."
