Dresden. Cleaning staff will be paid more in the new year. From January, their hourly wage will rise by 75 cents to at least 14.25 euros. This was announced by the Industrial Union for Construction, Agriculture and the Environment (IG Bau) in Dresden. It is also responsible for the building cleaning sector.
IG-Bau district chairman Jörg Borowski said that the new "wage mark" applies to 141 companies in the sector in Dresden. These companies employ a total of around 6,300 people. In one year, the wage will then climb to 15 euros per hour. IG Bau has thus succeeded in achieving a wage increase of more than eleven percent for building cleaners in two years. However, this applies to workers who clean the inside of buildings. Glass and façade cleaners earn more. According to IG-Bau, their hourly wage is also rising this month: by 95 cents to 17.65 euros.
IG Bau also explained that it had campaigned for significantly higher training pay in the collective bargaining negotiations. Apprentices in the sector now start their first year of training with 1,000 euros a month. "This gives them 100 euros more in their pockets," said Borowski. In the second year, trainees would then receive 1,150 euros, and 1,300 euros in the third year.
