Dresden. A new security company has been working at Dresden Airport since August 1. The company Securitas has taken over as security service provider, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland (BMI). Securitas is a nationwide security company.

The procurement office of Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had already terminated the contract with the previous security company ESA Luftsicherheit GmbH at the end of June. The reason given for the termination at the time was "failure to provide services in accordance with the contract".

One employee reported at the time that some aviation security staff had only been paid part of their salary. Others were not paid at all for months. There is "general uncertainty". However, the workforce did not dare to defend themselves against the working conditions for fear of being dismissed. According to the employee, only around half of the aviation security staff were still working at the beginning of July. The rest had taken sick leave or were on vacation.

Federal police stepped in to prevent long queues

The dismissal came at an inopportune time: the Saxon school vacations had begun on June 20. To prevent long queues at the security gates, officers from the federal police had to step in at times to help with passenger checks.

From June 21 to July 12, 106 police officers were on duty for around 326 hours. This corresponds to an average of around 15 hours of deployment per day. These figures are based on a written question from MP Lars Rohwer (CDU) to the BMI. The federal police officers were on duty for the longest time on June 23 - nine officers worked together for almost 34 hours at Dresden Airport.
