Chemnitz. Employees in the East German textile industry will receive more money. In the third round of wage negotiations, an agreement was reached after around 15 hours of negotiations, announced the Association of the North-East German Textile and Clothing Industry on Saturday. There had previously been several warning strikes in the industry. The Trade union IG Metall confirmed the deal on request.

According to the agreement, employees will receive a total wage increase of 10.0 percent, additional tax-free inflation compensation payments of 1,250 euros, a gradual increase in annual bonuses until 2029 and a continuation of partial retirement with more flexible options. The agreement has a term of 22 months.

Saxony and Thuringia are the core regions of the East German textile industry. According to the association, 14,500 of a total of around 16,000 employees work in these two federal states. This makes the region one of the four largest textile locations in Germany. (dpa)
