Five of the "101 Best Hotels in Germany" are located in Saxony - one more than last year. In addition to the Gewandhaus Dresden Autograph Collection and the Relais & Châteaux Hotel Bülow Palais, lesser-known hotels such as the Emmerich Hotel Görlitz in the "Luxury City Hotel" category and the Townhouse Dresden a Vagabond (Luxury Design Hotel category) also made it into the top league. Once again, the Hotel bei Schumanns is also represented in the ranking in the "Luxury Spa & Health Resort" category.
The general managers from eastern Germany have not yet managed to get their hotels into the top ten and thus take to the stage at the big awards gala on Sunday evening at the "Das Achental" resort. Nevertheless, the East is catching up noticeably. With 24 of the "101 best hotels in Germany in 2025", the eastern German states and Berlin are particularly well represented.
Nine award-winning hotels in Berlin
Nine award-winning luxury hotels are located in the capital alone, including classics such as the Adlon Kempinski and newer hotels such as the Hotel am Steinplatz Autograph Collection, the Hotel Château Royal Berlin and the KPM Hotel & Residences Berlin. Thuringia can also look forward to an excellent top hotel with the Hotel Elephant.
The main winner and therefore Hotel of the Year is Schloss Elmau - where the G7 summit was held for the second time in 2022. Schloss Elmau is a magical place where music, nature and inspiration merge in a unique way. "My home away from home," said Daniel Hope in his laudatory speech.
Result based on three pillars
The renowned and most important ranking of the German-speaking hotel industry was founded in 2019 by Carsten K. Rath together with his son David Rath. In his long career, the hotel expert has also made a stop in Dresden as gastronomy director at the Taschenbergpalais. His Institute for Service and Leadership Excellence focuses on hotel ratings and is based on three pillars established by the IU International University. Firstly, hotel reviews on the two major booking platforms such as Booking.com and Tripadvisor are analyzed. The results of relevant awards such as the Hornstein Ranking are also taken into account.
Hotels with the best results from the first two pillars are tested at the end - Carsten K. Rath and his team then come to the hotel in person and stay overnight. The results of all three pillars are weighted equally for the ranking of the "101 best hotels". They are intended to serve as motivation for the employees of the award-winning hotels and as a guide for travelers.
