Dresden/Großröhrsdorf. 111 years after its foundation, the traditional Petzold bakery in Großröhrsdorf faces an uncertain future. The bakery and confectionery Petzold GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency, Henry Girbig, a lawyer at the Tiefenbacher business law firm and provisional administrator, announced on Wednesday in response to an inquiry from Sächsische.de.
The 70 employees will receive their wages for three months via the insolvency compensation, Girbig said. He was already looking for an investor, he said. According to its own information, the Petzold bakery has 13 branches: Three are in Großröhrsdorf, five in Dresden and one each in Bischofswerda, Elstra, Pirna, Pulsnitz and Stolpen.
Girbig said cost increases, price adjustments and customers' reluctance to buy had led to the financial predicament. Revenues have declined, he said. In relevant company databases, annual sales were last estimated at around two million euros.
Family business in third generation
The business of the bakery chain is managed by 66-year-old Lutz Petzold. He took over the company from his father in April 1979. In 1996, Petzold had a new production facility built. In 2010, he spun off the business from his private assets and transferred it to a limited partnership (KG). He is the sole shareholder there. He also owns the liable GmbH in the KG, Petzold Verwaltungs-GmbH. At that time, the company had a turnover of around three million euros and a net profit of a good 190,000 euros.
Lutz Petzold's grandfather Paul had founded the bakery on Radeberger Straße in Großröhrsdorf in 1912. The Café Edelweiss, which was also run by the family, advanced to become a popular address. In 1958, Lothar Petzold had taken over the fortunes of the bakery. Now lawyer Girbig oversees the business. He has set up special accounts to safeguard potential company assets for creditors. Petzold himself is forbidden to dispose of these special accounts.
