The Left Party makes the rumors about the sale of the Görlitz wagon factory a topic in the state parliament. The French company Alstom is looking for an investor for the plant. According to speculation German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall is said to be one of the interested parties.
"At a time when the threat of war and the longing for peace are growing in equal measure, clarity is needed. War has only one winner - the arms industry. It would not be good if an arms factory were to be established in the border triangle," said parliamentary group leader Rico Gebhardt in a press release. The future does not lie in the military. We want secure and good industrial jobs - rail vehicle construction is one of these important industries that must not be broken up. "Our country needs more trains to make the railroads fit again - not armored vehicles or other war equipment."
Görlitz Waggonbau held a celebration at the weekend to commemorate its foundation 175 years ago. However, the orders for the plant will only last until mid-2026, after which there will be hardly anything left on the books.
Gebhardt announced on Tuesday that he would be submitting a minor question to the state government on the same day. "I want to know what information the government has about the sale plans and the status of the negotiations." One of the questions: "What is the state government doing to find a civilian investor?"
