Wiesbaden. People in Germany are drinking more sugary soft drinks again. Last year, the volume of colas, soft drinks and similar beverages produced in Germany rose by 6% to 7.8 billion liters, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office. This results in a per capita consumption of 93 liters per year.

Statisticians have recorded significantly lower volumes since 2020. In the long term, however, little has changed in the volume of sugar drinks: 7.7 billion liters were produced in 2013. Since then, the proportion of light variants has risen by almost 13%, accounting for almost 19% of the total volume in 2023.

People are generally reaching for water more often. In 2023, a total of 12.29 billion liters of mineral, table or medicinal water were bottled in Germany. (dpa)
