City of Leipzig restructures rescue service
Back in March of this year, Patient Transport Managing Director Bernd Wickfelder explained to the online portal TAG24The company was not considered for the restructuring of the rescue service in Leipzig, allegedly due to a "lack of suitability". Wickfelder told the news portal at the time that the company was now facing an uncertain future.
The company's contract with Messestadt expired in July. Even a petition by Leipzig emergency doctor Daniela Filz in favor of Krankentransport Ost/West GmbH no longer helped. She told the Leipziger Volkszeitung newspaper that the situation was "a catastrophe" for the family-run company. She finds it "incredibly sad how this company has been played with". Emergency doctor Filz had collected 3,536 signatures in March. to the Leipzig Fire Director Axel Schuh.
According to an earlier report in the Leipziger Volkszeitung According to the report, Messestadt plans to build four modern rescue centers and several new stations for 50 to 70 million euros by 2030/31. Accordingly, 13 old locations are to disappear. The city administration had also redistributed the areas for the conversion: A lot had been put out to tender across Europe for each cardinal direction. Krankentransport Ost/West GmbH had applied for the north. The company was unsuccessful in its bid and an application for a review at the Saxony Public Procurement Chamber was unsuccessful. On October 1, a competitor will take over the north of Leipzig.
In addition to Krankentransport Ost/West GmbH, other rescue services in Leipzig include the Malteser, the Workers' Samaritan Federation and the Red Cross.
