Leipzig entrepreneur and Dresden investor struggles with insolvency

The Königshöfe, the Residenz am Postplatz and the Quartier Hoym - the building contractor Christoph Gröner is also well-known in Dresden. Now several of his companies have filed for insolvency.

Leipzig/Dresden. Building contractor and real estate investor Christoph Gröner is facing several insolvency applications. Specifically, it concerns Gröner Group GmbH, over whose assets the Leipzig district court opened provisional insolvency proceedings on Wednesday. Further proceedings concern CG Gebäudetechnik GmbH, CG Ausbau GmbH and CG Rohbau GmbH.

The CG Group, named after Gröner's initials, is also active in Dresden. It renovated the former post office building on Postplatz, added new buildings and thus created the Residence at Postplatz. Gröner was an investor in the Hoym district near the Frauenkirche, the Carré Löbtauthe Royal courts at Palaisplatz as well as Sponsor of the festival Dresden Palais Summer.

CG Group GmbH, which was founded in Leipzig, is the remnants of what was once a much larger group. From 2020 onwards, Gröner had gradually sold parts of his group of companies to a Luxembourg-based real estate company. When asked by Deutsche Presseagentur, Gröner said that he had been surprised by the insolvency applications of a creditor, as they had already agreed on the modalities of outstanding payments. Background according to media reports unpaid health insurance contributions.

The 56-year-old building contractor admitted that both Gröner Group GmbH and the other companies concerned were "certainly not always punctual with their contribution payments to various creditors". He asserted that all arrears would now be settled.

In addition to Gröner, the management of the CG Group also includes the former Head of the Federal Chancellery and former railroad board member Ronald Pofalla on. In November 2023 Former EU Commissioner and former Minister President of Baden-Württemberg Günter Oettinger Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the now renamed CG Group AG. From 2021 to 2022, he served as Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as an advisor to the group; however, they parted ways due to his connections to Russia. (with dpa)
